Shoe-Making: The Pathfinder

  • CraftStudies Studio & School 87 Maple Street Hartford, VT, 05001 United States (map)

Thursday, November 14 - Sunday, November 17, 2024 | 10A - 4P | Weekend workshop | $425

Experience the age-old cordwainer* craft! Use the original tin patterns, circa 1920, and many other antique shoemaking tools—that have been used by generations of Cordwainers—to craft a pair of the Pathfinder Oxford style of shoe.

Choose from an array of beautiful leathers, and learn traditional skills like how to cut leather, lay the patterns, hand lace the uppers, and waxing and burnishing the sole side. Near the end of class, you’ll inscribe your shoes with your name as a mark of your incredible, personalized creation.

Open to all skill levels, but some hand strength is required since the entire shoe is laced by hand.

Supplies: Materials are not included with registration. A materials fee of $250 is payable to the teaching artist.

Teaching Artist: Molly Grant

*A cordwainer is a shoemaker who makes new shoes from leather (as opposed to a cobbler who repairs existing shoes).
